Genuine Parts Company (NYSE: GPC), Atlanta, GA, reported sales for the second quarter ended June 30, 2010, were $2.8 billion, up 12 percent from the second quarter 2009. Profit was $124.5 million, up 20 percent.
For the six months ended June 30, 2010, sales were $5.4 billion, up 9 percent from the same period in 2009. Profit for the six months was $225.1 million.
By segment, sales for industrial distributor Motion Industries, No. 6 on the list of MDM's top 40 industrial distributors, were up 26 percent for the quarter. EIS, the electrical group, had a sales increase of 32 percent. The Automotive Group's sales went up 7 percent. S.P. Richards, the Office Products Group, ended the quarter down 1 percent.
