Swedish manufacturer SKF has agreed to acquire German-based ship components provider Blohm + Voss Industries GmbH from Star Capital Partners for €80 million (US$104.5 million), strengthening SKF’s complete life cycle and asset management offerings for the marine industry.
Blohm + Voss Industries is an equipment manufacturer for critical marine applications, including shaft components (seals and bearings), stabilizers and oily water separators. Sales for 2011/2012 were €100 million (US$130.6 million).
SKF entered the marine business in the 1940s and offers products, engineering and services to the marine industry, including self-aligning bearings and coupling products. BVI products are of similar design parameters and production processes to other SKF seals and bearing products.
