WESCO International Inc. (NYSE: WCC), No. 2 on MDM's list of the top 25 electrical distributors and a provider of electrical, industrial and communications MRO and OEM products, construction materials, and advanced supply chain management and logistics services, reported sales for the second quarter ended June 30, 2013, were $1.89 billion, up 13.2 percent from the prior-year period.
Acquisitions positively affected sales by 14.6 percent; organic sales declined 1.2 percent.
Profit was $65.3 million for the quarter.
“Our second-quarter results reflect continued solid execution in a challenging economic environment with end market conditions consistent with our prior expectations,” said John Engel, WESCO CEO. “While organic sales declined 1 percent versus prior year, business momentum improved through the quarter with June sales per workday up 2 percent, driven by growth in Lighting and continued strength in Utility.”
Sales for the first six months were $3.7 billion, up 12.9 percent, primarily a result of acquisitions. Organic sales were down 1.5 percent for the period. Profit for the first six months was $149.3 million.
