FCC to Biz Faxers: Never Mind for Now
Product DetailsIn yet another version of Washington's hurry-up-and-wait syndrome, the Federal Communications Commission has postponed the last piece of the fax ban initially slated to take effect Aug. 25. The FCC on Oct. 3 postponed the effective date of their proposed restrictive definition of Established Business Relationship (EBR) as it applies to sending unsolicited commercial faxes.
Bottom line: The current rules, in place for more than ten years, remain in effect. No changes to the way businesses have been sending commercial faxes until either the FCC decides on the petitions for reconsideration of the fax ban, or Jan. 1, 2005. Businesses can market by fax to those who consent to receive, and the permission doesn't need to be in writing.
