Monthly Wholesale Trade: Sales and Inventories for January 2005
January 2005 sales of merchant wholesalers, after adjustment for seasonal variations and trading-day differences but not for price changes, were $288.8 billion, up 0.5 percent from the revised December level and were up 13.5 percent from the January 2004 level. The December preliminary estimate was revised upward $0.5 billion or 0.2 percent. January sales of durable goods decreased 0.1 percent from last month, but were up 17.5 percent from a year ago. Compared to last month, sales of professional and commercial equipment and supplies decreased 3.5 percent, while sales of lumber and other construction materials increased 2.8 percent. January sales of nondurable goods were up 1.1 percent from last month and were up 9.9 percent from last year.
