Tip: Define Career Development Paths for Younger Employees

Using more experienced employees' career paths will serve as a visual model to new workers.

Distributors need a commitment to a career pathway for the younger candidates of today’s and tomorrow’s labor pool, according to Prudence Thompson, Egret Consulting, in 10 Tips to Successfully Recruit Millennials. This is becoming table stakes for companies – especially independent distributors – in today’s competitive work force.

“If the bigger companies are able to do that and do that effectively, I think that others could follow suit,” Thompson says. “It could be as simple as, ‘You hit these barriers, here is your next opportunity.’"

Using more experienced employees' career paths as models will serve as a visual example to younger workers as to how they can grow in the company.

"It’s one thing to say there’s opportunity for career growth," said Thompson. "It’s another to be able to show somebody the path, especially if you have someone in the organization that’s already taken that path.”
