April 2016 M&A Roundup: Consolidation Ramps Up in HVAC/Plumbing Sector

A handful of HVAC and plumbing distributors whittled down their M&A pipelines last month, with some of the biggest companies in the sector announcing deals.

Ferguson Enterprises Inc., Newport News, VA, acquired Oklahoma-based Andrews Lighting Gallery Inc., helping the company – No. 1 on the Top 10 HVACR & Plumbing Distributors list – expand its footprint in Oklahoma.

Winsupply Inc., Dayton, OH – No. 4 on the Top 10 HVACR & Plumbing Distributors list – acquired K&J Supply, a Pensacola, FL-based industrial pipe, valves and fittings distributor that serves the Gulf Coast from locations in Pensacola, FL, and Mobile, AL.

F.W. Webb Co., Bedford, MA, acquired State Line Supply in Seabrook, NH – the 12th location in New Hampshire for the No. 8 company on the Top 10 HVACR & Plumbing Distributors list.

And Atlas Copco, Stockholm, Sweden, acquired Air et Fluides Lyonnais, a French distributor of industrial air compressors and ancillary systems, while Atlas Copco subsidiary Quincy Compressor LLC, Bay Minette, AL, acquired Scales Industrial Technologies Inc., Carle Place, NY, a distributor of industrial air compressors and ancillary systems.

Building materials and construction distributors also were busy last month, led by Beacon Roofing Supply, Herndon, VA, acquiring two companies – Atlantic Building Products, Warminster, PA, and Lyf-Tym Building Products, Charlotte, NC.

Huttig Building Products, St. Louis, MO, acquired BenBilt Building Systems, a wholesale distributor and door fabricator serving customers in the Mid-Atlantic region.

A.H. Harris, West Hartford, CT, acquired Kenseal Construction Products, Boston, MA. And Hyster-Yale Group Inc., Cleveland, OH, acquired Speedshield Technologies' telematics installation and distribution businesses in the U.S. and the UK.

One key divestiture occurred last month when HD Supply, Atlanta, GA, agreed to sell its HD Supply Interior Solutions business unit – formerly known as Creative Touch Interiors – to Interior Specialists Inc., Carlsbad, CA.
