Essendant Inc. (NASDAQ: ESND), Deerfield, IL, reported sales for the third quarter of $1.4 billion, up 1.1 percent over the same period a year ago. Profit increased 32.8 percent to $36.7 million.
Third-quarter sales for industrial supplies decreased 4.7 percent to $139.8 million. Sales for janitorial/sanitation decreased 1.3 percent to $372.9 million. Total office products sales increased 1.6 percent to $240 million.
For the first nine months, sales were $4.1 billion, up 1.2 percent from the same period in 2015. Profit increased 28.6 percent to $66.2 million.
