In what could be seen as a response to the growth of fellow marketplace eBay Motors, eCommerce giant Amazon announced earlier this month that it has launched the Amazon OEM Parts Shop as a new offering for auto parts buyers.
The new OEM Auto Parts Shop adds mostly aftermarket replacement and custom parts and accessories from countless automotive brands, including OEM companies like GM, Stellantis, BMW and Yamaha.
The shop builds upon the Amazon Garage that the tech giant already had in operation, bringing more parts and accessories to that offering in collaboration with automakers and powersport companies. It enables customers to shop genuine parts using Amazon Garage’s filtering tool to search by vehicle year, make, model and other specifications.
Amazon OEM Auto Parts Shop users are able to see transparent price listings for each item and detailed product information that includes fitment details to help ensure they find the right product for their exact vehicle.
“Since 2020, we’ve seen an average 20% increase annually in the number of vehicles US customers have saved in the Amazon Garage, showing a clear customer interest in shopping for parts and accessories for their vehicles similar to the way they shop for other consumer products,” said Ernie Linsay, Amazon’s director of automotive, as quoted by GearJunkie, MediaPost and Chain Store Age.
Those publications detail that the online shop offers ship-to-home, in-store/dealership pickup and ship-to-mechanic services.
Overall, the enhanced offering from Amazon looks to make end users’ automotive parts shopping experience as easy as buying anything else from the marketplace’s website.
At rival eBay, the company first launched eBay Motors back in 2000 as an automotive marketplace, which has since evolved from a digital channel to sell vehicles to one more focused on parts and accessories for vehicles. The latest news out of eBay Motors was on Feb. 14, when the marketplace announced the launch of eBay Guaranteed Fit — a program that helps users ensure that what they’re buying on the platform will fit their vehicle.
