Is your distribution company doing innovative work?
For the fourth year, MDM is recognizing distributors that stand out. We invite you to nominate your business or a distribution business you know as a 2014 MDM Market Mover. Visit www.mdm.com/2014-market-movers to fill out or download the Market Mover nomination form.
We’ve been honored to recognize some great distributors with the MDM Market Mover distinction. You can read their full stories in our archives at www.mdm.com, but here’s a snapshot of winners from 2011-2013:
Last year, Replenex of Eden Prairie, MN, was recognized for making finding and documenting customer cost savings a part of its DNA. “It really is part of our DNA,” President Matt Cohen told us last year. “We were already documenting cost savings a variety of different ways. But when the market is down, and the economy is not doing well, there’s no better time to reinvest in your business and invest in tools that ultimately will help you bring value to the customer.”
A&M Industrial in Rahway, NJ, was chosen because of its focus on building a suite of products and services around clients that are in emergency situations. The distributor built out a new niche for itself.
Machinery Tooling & Supply, Schaumburg, IL, was a great example of the power of a strategic plan. It created its first plan in 2005, actually stuck with it and saw a 129 percent sales increase as a result.
Rather than letting up during the recession, MSCO Inc., Sheffield, AL, invested and diversified, resulting in double-digit growth. It built a safety division as part of that strategy. (I recently interviewed Martin Industrial Supply CEO David Ruggles for our monthly Executive Briefing program, available to listen to at www.mdm.com/executivebriefing.)
Specialty building products distributor C.H. Briggs, Reading, PA, prioritized technology’s role in its business, including social media’s integration into its customer relationships.
The first two companies MDM recognized in 2011 were Johnson Air Products, Portland, OR, which as a distributor became a leader in LEED construction standards for its customers, and Werner Electric Supply, Cottage Grove, MN, which built an employee wellness program.
We look forward to hearing about your company’s innovative approach to the market. If you have any questions about MDM Market Movers, please feel free to call my direct line at 303-443-3094 or email me at lindsay@mdm.com. The deadline for submissions is April 15.
