Fastenal Canada Fined for Environmental Damages

Company pleads guilty to importing, selling aerosol products containing hydrochlorofluorocarbons.

Fastenal Canada Ltd., Kitchener, Ontario, the Canadian division of Fastenal Co. (Nasdaq: FAST), Winona, MN, was fined $265,000 for importing and selling aerosol products containing hydrochlorofluorocarbons – a regulated ozone-depleting substance – from November 2012 to January 2015.

The company was fined after pleading guilty in the Ontario Court of Justice to two counts of contravening Canada's Ozone-Depleting Substances Regulations, 1998, part of that country's 1999 Environmental Protection Act. The fine will be directed to the Environmental Damages Fund. Fastenal Canada will be added to Canada's Environmental Offenders Registry.
