Columbus McKinnon Corp. (NASDAQ: CMCO), Amherst, NY, a designer, manufacturer and marketer of material handling products, reported sales for the third quarter ended Dec. 31, 2009, were $119 million, down 27.9% from the same period a year ago. The company recorded a net loss of $2.3 million for the period, compared to profit of $3.8 million a year ago.

Restructuring charges, primarily for severance costs associated with consolidation of the company’s North American hoist and rigging manufacturing operations, were $3.6 million in the fiscal 2010 third quarter.
Fiscal year-to-date sales were $353.2 million, down 25% from the prior year same period. Net loss for the first nine months was $7.5 million, compared with profit of $24.1 million during the first nine months of fiscal 2009.
