Weyerhaeuser Agrees to Sell iLevel European Unit

Weyerhaeuser Company, Federal Way, WA, has agreed to sell its iLevel European engineered wood products operations to Finnforest of Finland, part of the Metsaliitto Group.
 
The sale includes supply commitments for iLevel's wood products brands in Europe and a diversified customer base composed primarily of wholesale distribution companies, building materials dealers, structural systems suppliers and industrial manufacturers.
 
This sale will allow iLevel to focus on its core North American residential wood products business,"said Carlos Guilherme, vice president of sales for Weyerhaeuser's iLevel wood products business.

PTDA Survey: Distributors, Manufacturers Expect Growth in ’08

Concerns the U.S. may be sliding into an economic recession are not immediately evident among distributors and manufacturers in the recent 2008 Member Forecast Survey of Power Transmission Distributors Association.
 
Among the 46 distributor respondents, 63 percent anticipate sales growth in 2008, just over a quarter project flat sales and about 11 percent expect a drop.
 
The 57 manufacturer respondents tend to be a bit more optimistic — 83.6 percent see sales gains and 16.4 percent predict flat sales. Manufacturer respondents don't predict a decrease in sales.

Veyance Forms Joint Venture in China

Veyance Technologies, Inc., manufacturer of Goodyear-branded conveyor belts, has formed Shandong Aneng Conveyor Belt &Rubber Co., Ltd., a long-term joint venture between Veyance's Asia subsidiary and the Yinhe Group's Ruiyuan Rubber and Plastics Company, Ltd.
 
Shandong Aneng also has a tentative agreement to purchase exclusive rights to the Yinhe Depreux brand in China.

Based in Yanzhou China, Shandong Aneng is a conveyor belt manufacturer in China. Its 20 production lines annually produce more than 12 million square meters of high quality fabric- and steel-cable-reinforced rubber conveyor belts, as well as fabric-reinforced PVC conveyor belts.

Sperian Protection Sales Up 6.5% in 2007

French-based Sperian Protection reported sales growth of 6.5% in 2007, excluding currency effects. Organic growth was 3.5% for the year.
 
The safety products manufacturer reported that growth was not as strong in the fourth quarter as in the previous quarter, in large part due to regulatory changes in respiratory systems for firefighters in the U.S., delaying orders.

PT/MC Sales Drop 5.9% in November

U.S. distributors'sales of power transmission/motion control products continue to fluctuate, dropping 5.9 percent from October to November after a 5.2 percent increase in sales the prior month, according to the latest Power Transmission Distributors Association month-end trend data for November 2007.

Year-to-year comparisons have been positive all year; sales in November 2007 came in 6.8 percent higher than in November 2006.  Accounts receivable collection days also continue to fluctuate, increasing 2.5 percent in November 2007 after dropping 6.8 percent last month. The November 2007 confidence index for U.S. distributors remained flat at 6.2 (on a 10-point scale).
