Government spending continues to rise – and while business owners may not be excited about the long-term implications of that spending and the political fights that come along with it, there have been increased opportunities to do business with the government in the past year in part due to stimulus spending.
 
However, doing business with the government is unlike doing business with a private company. There are hurdles to be crossed and red tape to cut through. The Wall Street Journal offers a quick 1, 2, 3 how-to for small businesses looking to tap into government markets.
 
The article says working with a company that already does business with the government is one way of making the process easier. Another way to get your foot in the door: Determine if your company qualifies as a woman-owned, minority-owned or vet-owned business or falls into another category, such as its location in a "poor economic zone."
