Motion Industries sales for the second quarter were down about 1 percent. Motion was No. 6 on MDM’s 2013 list of the top 40 industrial distributors.
Parent company Genuine Parts Company (NYSE: GPC) reported sales for the quarter were $3.68 billion, up 10 percent from the prior-year period. Profit for the company was $216.4 million.
Sales for EIS, GPC’s electrical/electronic group, were down 4 percent. S.P. Richards, the office products group, saw sales decline 3 percent.
The 10 percent sales increase for the full company was driven by sales in the Automotive Group, which were up 22 percent, with core growth in North America of 6 percent and an acquisition in the Australasian market.
For the six months ended June 30, 2013, sales for GPC were $6.87 billion, up 5 percent from last year. Profit for the six months was $360.7 million.
