Gordon Food Service has selected supply chain planning provider RELEX Solutions to enhance its demand forecasting and replenishment capabilities, the companies announced.

The partnership is aimed at improving forecast accuracy, streamlining inventory management and supporting more responsive replenishment across Gordon Food Service’s distribution network. RELEX’s platform leverages advanced analytics and machine learning to help distributors better align inventory levels with customer demand while reducing waste and stockouts.

Wyoming, MI-based Gordon Food Service — one of North America’s largest family-owned foodservice distributors with approximately $24 billion in 2024 revenue and 20,000 employees — will implement RELEX’s unified planning solution to gain greater visibility into demand patterns and automate forecasting and replenishment processes. The system is designed to incorporate a wide range of data inputs, including historical sales, seasonal trends and external factors, to generate more precise forecasts.

Company officials said the move supports Gordon Food Service’s broader digital transformation efforts and ongoing focus on supply chain efficiency. By improving forecast accuracy and inventory positioning, the distributor aims to enhance service levels for its restaurant, healthcare and institutional customers.

RELEX noted that its platform is built to handle the complexities of food distribution, including fresh and perishable products, where demand variability and shelf-life constraints add planning challenges. The solution also enables scenario planning and real-time adjustments, helping distributors respond more quickly to demand shifts.

Implementation is expected to occur in phases, with initial deployment focused on core forecasting and replenishment functions before expanding to additional planning capabilities.

The companies said the partnership underscores continued investment in technology-driven supply chain optimization across the wholesale distribution sector.
