Private equity firm Brenton Point Capital Partners has launched Continental Fuel Group — a new acquisition platform focused on commercial fuel distributors across the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and Southeast U.S.
The company said it is actively pursuing acquisitions of established fuel distributors involved in bulk fuel, on-site fueling, mobile fueling and wholesale delivery operations.
Continental Fuel Group will be led by CEO Rob Lewis, who has more than 25 years of experience in fuel distribution and aviation fueling businesses, alongside Chairman Vincent Hartnett, former president of Penske Logistics.
The platform is targeting founder-owned and lower middle-market distributors serving sectors such as construction, agriculture, transportation, marine, rail, municipalities and fleet operators.
Lewis said the company plans to preserve the identity and workforce of acquired businesses while providing additional operational scale and infrastructure support.
“We’re not a financial buyer looking to strip costs,” Lewis said in the announcement. “We’re operators looking to build solid businesses for the long-term.”
According to the company, Continental intends to maintain local brands and customer relationships while adding centralized fuel purchasing, fleet resources, back-office infrastructure and technology investments.
Brenton Point Managing Partner Tim Hall said the platform is designed as an alternative to traditional private equity transactions for fuel distributors considering succession or ownership transition options.
The launch comes amid continued consolidation activity in fuel distribution and convenience retail markets, as operators face margin pressure, rising operating costs and succession planning challenges.
