Amazon Expands Operation Sites

The retailer and e-commerce giant will open 3 operations facilities in Alabama, where the company plans to add 500 more jobs by year’s end.
The U.S. Department of Labor today announced that its Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited Amazon for failing to keep workers safe, and has issued hazard alert letters after inspections at three warehouse facilities – in Deltona, Florida; Waukegan, Illinois; and New Windsor, New York – after finding workers exposed to ergonomic hazards.

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) this week said it will open three new operations facilities in Alabama, including a delivery station in Birmingham, a fulfillment center in Huntsville and a receive center in Montgomery.

“We are proud to continue our investment in Alabama with thousands of good jobs and new, state-of-the-art operations facilities,” said Brian Huseman, vice president of public policy at Amazon. “Our success would not be possible without our great employees and we are grateful for the enthusiasm and strong state and local support we have received since first launching operations in 2020. We look forward to continued investment as we innovate and grow to better serve our customers across the state.”

The company said it plans to add more than 500 full-time jobs to its Alabama operations by the end of the year.

Amazon previously opened a non-sortable fulfillment center, also in Huntsville.

Last month, Amazon opened a robotics facility in Westborough, Massachusetts.
