Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZ) said it plans to open its first Alabama fulfillment center, to be located in Bessemer, AL. The facility will create 1,500 full-time jobs, the company said.
Amazon operates a sortation center in Mobile, AL, but the Bessemer facility will be the state’s first fulfillment center, where employees will pick, pack and ship small items to customers, such as books, household items and toys. The facility also will employ robotics technology created by Amazon Robotics.
The news follows similar announcements in recent weeks. Amazon has said it will open its fourth fulfillment center in Michigan, and also said it will open two such centers in Oklahoma.
