Minneapolis-based Nash Finch Company (NASDAQ: NAFC), a U.S. food distribution company, reported sales for the second quarter of $1.2 billion, up 9.1 percent over the prior-year quarter. Profit was $8.9 million, compared to a prior-year loss of $90 million.
For the six month period ended June 15, sales were $2.3 billion, up 5.7 percent over the prior-year period. Profit was $11 million, compared to a year-ago loss of $79.5 million.
Food distribution & retail segment sales increased 15.4 percent to $667.3 million in the second quarter. Food distribution sales were up 10.3 percent, primarily from acquisitions. Retail sales increased 32 percent.
Military segment net sales increased 2.2 percent to $537.5 million in the second quarter.
On July 22, 2013, the company announced that it had entered into a definitive merger agreement with Grand Rapids, MI-based Spartan Stores.
