By now, I’m sure you’ve all heard about the disastrous 7.0 earthquake that hit Haiti last week, leveling much of the island nation. Current reports are placing the death toll at 72,000 at least from the initial quake. And just this morning, the country was hit by an aftershock measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale.

You may have even donated to one (or more) of the numerous organizations that are providing emergency relief to the area. But once they get past the emergency care, there will still be a lot of work to be done. The island will need everything that can be used for rebuilding, including industrial supplies, fasteners, electrical equipment, hammers, shovels, machine equipment and safety items.
The Industrial Supply Association is coordinating an industry-wide effort across distribution sectors to meet those needs. With the cooperation of Sorbent Products Company, a Brady business, Somerset, NJ, and Industrial Supply Company, Salt Lake City, UT, ISA is asking others in the MRO industry to send supplies to aid in the rebuilding effort.
Contributions of supplies may be sent to:
Haiti Relief Supplies
c/o SPC, A Brady Business
95 Clyde Rd.
Somerset, NJ 08873
(732) 873-0274
Include a detailed packing list, contact information for someone within your organization and the estimated value of the contribution. This information will be used for post-donation follow up.
“Be creative in your giving. Think of anything you have they could use in any way. Other MRO distributor trade associations have agreed to help in this effort,” said Jessica Polychronis, vice president of procurement and marketing for Industrial Supply Company.
Several groups, including the United Nations, the Red Cross and the U.S. Agency for International Development, have been lined up to assist in transporting the donations to the affected areas. ISA’s goal is to ship the first container of supplies by Feb. 23, so please send your contributions before Feb. 18.
