Founded in 1972, American Electric Supply operates locations throughout Southern California and supplies electrical products, lighting, switchgear and related solutions to contractors and industrial customers. The company has built a strong regional presence serving markets that include construction, industrial automation and infrastructure projects.

St. Louis-based Graybar said the acquisition will expand its capabilities and market reach in one of the country’s largest electrical distribution markets. The company added that American Electric Supply will continue operating with its existing team and customer relationships while gaining access to Graybar’s broader supply chain, logistics and service capabilities.

Graybar is one of North America’s largest employee-owned distributors of electrical, industrial, automation and communications products. The company operates more than 350 distribution facilities across the U.S. and Canada and provides supply chain management and logistics services to customers in construction, manufacturing, utility, commercial and institutional markets.

The acquisition marks another expansion move for Graybar as consolidation activity continues across the electrical distribution sector. The company has steadily added regional distributors in recent years to strengthen geographic density and deepen local customer relationships.

The pending deal follows a strong start to 2026 for Graybar. The company reported first-quarter sales of $3.3 billion, up 12.4% year-over-year, while net income climbed 40.6% to a record $141.9 million. Graybar said the quarter represented the highest net profit and second-highest quarterly sales total in its history.
