Specialty Building Products Named Trex’s Sole National Distributor

Trex is realigning its North American distribution network around SBP while expanding relationships with three regional distributors and transitioning away from Boise Cascade.

Specialty Building Products has been named the sole national distributor of Trex decking and railing products across North America as part of a broader realignment of the manufacturer’s distribution network.

Duluth, GA-based SBP said the expanded agreement builds upon a relationship with Trex that dates back more than two decades. The distributor first began carrying Trex decking products in 2002 and has since become one of the manufacturer’s largest distribution partners.

SBP’s 2025 acquisition of OrePac expanded its footprint across all 50 states and Canada, giving Trex access to SBP’s network of more than 15,000 dealers and retailers. Trex products will now be available through SBP for the first time in the Western states previously served by OrePac, including California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Colorado, Utah and Nevada.

“Our role in this expanded partnership is to help build demand for our customers and provide the expertise and supply chain services they need to accelerate the growth of their Trex business,” SBP President and CEO Jeff McLendon said.

While SBP will serve as Trex’s exclusive national distributor, Trex is maintaining a dual-distribution strategy by expanding several regional partnerships.

WS Building Materials will support Trex across eight Midwest states, while Coastal Forest Products will distribute its products across much of New England and New York. BlueLinx will expand Trex distribution throughout the South Central region, including Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and Kentucky, along with portions of several neighboring states.

As part of the network realignment, Trex said it will transition away from Boise Cascade as a distributor. The manufacturer said it will work with its distribution partners during the transition to maintain product availability for dealers, contractors, retailers and home-center customers.

Trex President and CEO Adam Zambanini cited consolidation among distributors and dealers within the two-step channel as a factor behind the changes.

“With SBP’s national coverage and our network of strong regional distribution partners, Trex will continue to be available from two of the top distributors wherever dealers, contractors and consumers are making their purchase decisions,” he said.

Trex announced the distribution changes alongside preliminary second-quarter sales of approximately $418 million, exceeding its previous guidance range of $388 million to $403 million. The company raised its full-year 2026 sales outlook to between $1.215 billion and $1.25 billion.
