Houston-based private equity firm SCF Partners has acquired American Piping Products — a major U.S. distributor of steel pipe, mechanical tubing, fittings and flanges.
Financial terms of the transaction were not announced.
Founded in 1994, Chesterfield, MO-based American Piping Products (APP) supplies tubular products to more than 1,800 customers in the U.S. and internationally. Its end markets include industrial, refining and chemical, power generation, data centers, energy and liquefied natural gas.
“As we look ahead, we see significant opportunities to expand our reach and capabilities while maintaining the service and reliability that have defined APP for more than 30 years,” APP CEO Mike Hubbell said in the Sept. 16 announcement.
APP stocks more than 60,000 tons of piping products, including seamless and welded carbon steel pipe, stainless steel pipe, low-temperature and chrome-moly pipe and mechanical tubing. The distributor also provides processing services including cutting, beveling, profiling, threading, coatings and product testing.
The company operates steel yards in Houston, Chicago and Charlotte, NC, along with its Missouri headquarters and a sales office near Philadelphia.
SCF Managing Director Deviyani Misra-Godwin said APP’s energy and industrial exposure aligns with markets in which SCF has significant experience, while highlighting APP’s growing presence in power generation and data center infrastructure.
Founded in 1989, SCF invests in energy, power and industrial service, equipment and technology companies. The firm said it has invested in more than 80 platform companies and completed more than 400 add-on acquisitions during its history.
