U.S. construction spending in July fell 0.1% below the revised June estimate of $2.14 trillion and 2.8% below the July 2024 estimate, according to U.S. Census Bureau data shared on Sep. 2. Â This was the fifth consecutive month of decline. July 2025 spending was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $2.139 trillion.

Private Construction
Spending on private construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1.623 trillion, 0.2% below the revised June estimate. Residential construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $886.5 billion in July, 0.1%Â above the revised June estimate. Nonresidential construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $736.7 billion in July, 0.5% below the revised June estimate.
Public Construction
In July, the estimated seasonally adjusted annual rate of public construction spending was $515.8 billion, 0.3% above the revised June estimate. Educational construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $111.7 billion, 0.1% below the revised June estimate. Highway construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $142.8 billion, 0.1% below the revised June estimate.
