I’m delighted to announce that Gale Media, publisher of Modern Distribution Management, has acquired Industrial Market Information, a market research firm that for 25 years has helped industrial products manufacturers and distributors with market demand estimates by product and customer segment.

IMI will continue to operate as a separate entity. Gale Media will continue to publish MDM and conduct industry research to create value-added educational resources for wholesale distribution executives.

Rusty Duncan, founder of IMI, will remain engaged with IMI for the next three years as we continue to build out a richer set of industrial market research tools. This ownership transition is a natural continuation of a business relationship that has extended across 20 years. Rusty and I were business partners in MDM for eight years in the 1990s.

IMI provides cost-effective market demand estimates, account potential reports and customer prospect lists based on estimated usage for more than 200 industrial MRO/OEM product groups. The market insight includes national, regional and local market demand estimates by customer segment (4-digit SIC); prospect lists filtered by estimated product usage; customer segmentation analysis by product and customer type; and customer segmentation with SIC/NAICS code appending.

One of the reasons I feel IMI and MDM are a great fit is that their respective core missions are so well aligned. Much of MDM’s coverage and reporting centers on strategic planning, competitive analysis, and other aspects of supporting distribution executives with market insight.

Leading distributors and manufacturers have used IMI’s services for market planning, territory management, account management and potential analysis, and joint distributor/vendor planning.

I’m excited about the opportunity to increase value for both MDM and IMI customers. IMI has been the primary market data provider to MDM since 1992, and MDM subscribers will quickly benefit from our ability to tap even more into this unique market data resource as MDM deepens its market analysis capabilities.

Please call me direct at 303-440-3857 if you have any questions about IMI.
