Beacon Roofing Supply, Inc. (NASDAQ: BECN), Peabody, MA, reported sales for the second quarter ended March 31, 2012, were $395.2 million, up 33.4 percent over the same period a year ago. Organic sales grew 28.2 percent. Profit was $3.1 million compared to a year-ago net loss of $6.2 million.

In existing markets, residential and non-residential roofing product sales increased 46 percent and 17.4 percent, respectively, while complementary product sales increased 6.7 percent.
\”The much warmer winter conditions this year boosted roofing and exterior remodeling activities and seemed to accelerate the recent trend of increased residential re-roofing activities,\” said Paul Isabella, president and CEO. \”In addition, our roofing businesses continued to benefit from industry-wide price increases, which mostly occurred during the second half of last year.\”
For the first six months of the fiscal year, sales increased 26.2 percent to $885 million. Organic sales grew 21.7 percent. Profit was $22.3 million, compared to $3.9 million a year ago.
