Dallas-based manufacturers representative organization Lawless Group shared its founder and owner, Richard Lawless, died on Aug. 24 after a battle with cancer.

Richard co-founded the company nearly 50 years ago with his father Darrell and his wife Janis. He started several other companies that include Pro Line Products and seven Lawless Sales agencies across the United States, while also acquiring companies that include OVERTIME and ProLine Chemical and Plastics.

“Through decades of dedication, he launched new enterprises, acquired companies and fostered relationships that shaped the company’s legacy and impact on the industry.” the company said in a news release.

Lawless Group noted that Richard’s brothers, Bob and Gary, also contributed significantly to the organization’s success and that his daughter Stefani and son Vaughn remain active in the business and are committed to carrying on Richard’s vision.

“Richard embodied the spirit of The Lawless Group – dedicated to his family and leading with exceptional vision,” company CEO Justin Vailes said. “He treated every employee as part of our extended family, and his generosity, integrity, and unwavering commitment made a meaningful impact on everyone he met. His legacy will continue to inspire us all for years to come.”

In July, Lawless Group announced an overhaul of its sales organization and leadership that included Vailes’ promotion to CEO. The company’s sales realignment consolidates its previous regional structure into two primary divisions: Lawless Group East and Lawless Group West.

Today, Lawless Group’s footprint includes nine regional warehouses across the U.S. that have over 500,000-square-feet of space, backed by more than 120 employees. The company serves markets of industrial, commercial construction and safety.

Lawless Group’s LinkedIn post announcing Richard’s passing now includes about 150 comments from industry colleagues who shared their condolences and memories of him.

A celebration of life for Richard will be held Sept. 4 in Dallas.
