Electrical and industrial supplies distributor Border States has promoted Kelly Rudolf to Vice President of Information Security, the latest in a series of leadership appointments involving longtime company employee-owners this year.

Rudolf joined Fargo, ND-based Border States in 2003 and has advanced through a series of leadership roles, most recently serving as Information Security Director. The company credited him with helping develop and execute its enterprise security strategy while building a culture of cybersecurity preparedness and accountability.

In his new position, Rudolf will continue leading Border States’ efforts to strengthen cyber resilience, manage enterprise risk and securely support the company’s growth and digital transformation initiatives.

“The impact of Kelly’s leadership extends beyond technology,” Border States Chief Information Officer Jason Stein said in a July 24 news release. “As VP Information Security, Kelly will continue leading Border States’ efforts to enhance cyber resilience, manage enterprise risk and support the company’s ongoing growth and digital transformation.”

Rudolf said his focus will be on enabling the distributor to pursue growth and digital transformation securely while protecting its employee-owners, information and operations.

His promotion continues a run of vice president appointments announced by Border States during 2026.

In January, the company promoted 15-year veteran Richelle Bishoff from VP of Procurement to VP of Industrial Solutions, where she leads the development and execution of its industrial market strategy. Border States also hired Charlie Hoertz as its first VP of Digital Transformation to oversee an enterprise-wide strategy involving technology, data, artificial intelligence, process automation and IoT.

Border States followed those moves in February by promoting Zach Kincaid, a company veteran of more than 12 years, from VP of Distribution to VP of Procurement. Andrew Mikulak, an 11-year company veteran who most recently served as an area director, was promoted to VP of Distribution in April.

The 100% employee-owned Border States supplies construction, industrial and utility customers. The company has more than 3,500 employee-owners and 125 locations across 31 states.
