Roofing and other building materials distributor Beacon partnered with roofing automation startup Renovate Robotics.
Based in Brooklyn, NY, Renovate Robotics is a startup creating autonomous roofing robots aimed at improving safety and productivity for contractors. Its first robot, Rufus, is designed to install asphalt shingles on residential roofs and is set to debut with contractors in New Jersey and Pennsylvania later this year.

“This technology has the potential to disrupt the roofing industry where labor is a scarce resource, and we are excited to be an early partner that can help shape its development,” Beacon President and CEO Julian Francis said in a March 10 news release. “Renovate Robotics’ mission perfectly aligns with Beacon’s focus on safety and efficiency, and we look forward to incorporating their advanced robotic technology across our network to better serve our contractor customers.”

On March 7, Beacon announced that it acquired Menlo Park, CA-based DM Figley Company, Inc.
Beacon was No. 5 on MDM’s Top Distributors List for Building Materials/Construction.
