Webb Analytics released its Construction Supply 150 report earlier in May — serving as a definitive revenue rankings and analysis report of the companies that supply lumber and building materials to professional homebuilders and remodelers.
The report showed that over half of U.S. building materials distributors experienced a decline in sales during 2024, with building materials sellers’ combined annual revenues reaching approximately $412 billion.
The report estimates that CS150 companies represent over two-thirds of the $600 billion U.S. lumber and building materials (LBM) market, a figure that rises to $620 billion when including operations in Canada and Mexico.

The group of CS150 companies saw a modest 1.3% increase in 2024 revenue, but excluding The Home Depot and Lowe’s, the remaining 148 companies posted a 0.7% gain.
According to the report, these figures would have been lower when excluding acquisitions and new Greenfield locations. Companies that expanded reported an increase of 1.6% in sales, while those that did not saw a 2.4% decline.

“CS150 members had to slog through weak economic conditions in 2024,” Webb Analytics President Craig Webb said in the report. “The number of single-family housing units under construction dropped 5.3% in 2024, multifamily units under construction were down 22%, and remodeling expenditures shrank 1.4%. In years like this, DIYer spending can be a lifeline, but volume was down in this area, too. Same-store sales revenue fell 0.3% at Ace Hardware stores, 1.8% at The Home Depot, and 2.7% at Lowe’s.”
Webb will be a guest analyst during MDM’s (free) June 12 Top Distributors webcast to break down our Building Materials/Construction Distributors List. Stay tuned for a registration page.
Webb was also featured in the latest MDM Podcast episode — released May 14 — that analyzed QXO’s $11 billion acquisition of Beacon.
