Health and specialty foods wholesale distributor Unified Natural Foods appointed David Best as President and CEO of Retail, effective Aug. 17.
Best will report directly to UNFI CEO Sandy Douglas. He will oversee the company’s retail business strategy and lead its two retail banners, Cub Foods and Shoppers Food Warehouse.
Before joining UNFI, Best was President and COO of Coborn’s Inc. for two years, where he led strategic initiatives focused on growth and category expansion. He previously held senior roles at General Mills and spent 19 years at Target in merchandising, supply chain and business development.

“David’s track record of driving retail innovation, his deep industry expertise, and his shopper-centric approach make him an ideal leader to help us write the next chapter of success for our retail business,” Douglas said in an Aug. 5 news release. “As a Minnesota native, his connection to the local heritage of our Cub brand and his passion for the communities we serve will be invaluable as we partner with our franchisees to drive long-term, shared growth.”
On July 17, UNFI released its updated fiscal outlook for 2025, which reflected the impact of the June cyber attack on the company’s financial results. UNFI said that while sales recovered, the incident will negatively affect fourth quarter earnings and increase operating expands, and detailed the estimated financial impacts.
