Shealy Electrical Wholesalers Inc. has agreed to acquire Electrical Distributors Inc. in a merger agreement effective in January 2012.

Shealy sees the merger as a good geographical fit, with Shealy serving South Carolina, Eastern Georgia and Eastern North Carolina and EDI serving the greater Charlotte market.

In the past, according to Shealy, the two distributors have been "friendly competitors," sharing best practices. "By joining together, we are able to provide even higher levels of service to our expanded customer base, through a network of 16 locations across the Carolinas," Shealy posted on its website.

EDI will continue to operate under the EDI name, as a division of Shealy Electrical Wholesalers.
