Aluminum producer Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA) invested $4 billion in funding to establish its first primary aluminum production facility at Oklahoma’s Tulsa Port of Inola.

EGA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Governor Stitt on April 21, outlining the terms of its investment. The agreement depends on approval from the Oklahoma Legislature.

The facility will be built on over 350 acres at the Tulsa Port of Inola, a 2,200-acre industrial park with access to rail, barge and global waterways. EGA noted that, once complete, the plant will allegedly be the largest of its kind in the U.S., producing billets, sheet ingots, high-purity aluminum and foundry alloys.

According to an Oklahoma Commerce release, the project is projected to generate 1,000 direct jobs and 1,800 indirect jobs, while also strengthening Oklahoma’s capacity to expand its manufacturing sector significantly. The agency also said the investment would result in the first new primary aluminum production plant to be built in the U.S. in 45 years.

Aluminum produced in Oklahoma will supply key industries, including aerospace and defense, as well as automotive, food and beverage and other essential markets.

“The U.S. has been an important market for EGA for several decades, and we know there is strong demand for our high-quality metal ‘made in America,’” EGA CEO Abdulnasser Bin Kalban said in the May 16 release. “EGA has the skills, technology and capital to start rebuilding this great American industry, and in Oklahoma I am confident we will secure the right conditions to do so. This is an important moment for EGA, and for the economic relationship between the United States and the United Arab Emirates.”

This announcement is part of President Trump and the White House’s reveal of $200 billion in commercial agreements between the U.S. and the U.A.E.
