Cloud computing is getting a lot of play in consumer markets today, but it is still an emerging technology option for business-to-business markets. More distributors are using or at least examining options for incorporating cloud technologies into their business systems. MDM presented a Webcast two weeks ago with well-known technology expert Steve Epner and Doug Johnson of Acumatica, a provider of cloud ERP software with wholesale distribution as one its niches.

The goal of our program was to provide distribution executives with some insight into the business case for cloud computing, with a focus on applications for wholesale distribution businesses. Our speakers debunked some of the myths about cloud and presented detailed information on deployment options, contract issues, costs and ROI.
Case in point: There was a discussion on different cost models, and differential costs over several years, based on whether you deploy a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Hosted or On-Premise model. That came after an outline of what these terms mean, as well as the most suitable uses of the different options. Whether your company has a handful of employees or more than 1,000, this program provided great perspective for a distribution executive, in Epner’s words, “to know the right questions to ask of technology providers and be able to understand a compare the toolsets and technologies available.”
If you are thinking about business system and software options ahead to fit your business needs (and who isn’t constantly evaluating?), this free 60-minute primer on what distribution executives need to know about “the cloud” is well worth your time.
