Family-owned and third generation-operated Green Mountain Electric Supply (Colchester, VT) expanded its New England region footprint between mid-February and the end of April via two acquisitions and a pair of additional new locations.

Ion Lighting Distribution Acquisition

On April 1, the company announced the acquisition of Springfield, MA-based Ion Lighting Distribution. Established in 2016, Ion was formed by Sean Callahan of Needham Electric Supply and James Jaron of Zap Electric. The company provides businesses, municipalities, schools and contractors with energy-efficient lighting products.

“We are very excited to be joining the GMES team and look forward to providing our present and future customers with a complete line of electrical supply products,” said Callahan, who manages Ion’s Springfield location.

“We believe that their deep knowledge of the greater Springfield market will help Green Mountain Electric Supply flourish in Western Massachusetts,” added Luc Choquette, GMES’ VP of Operations.

Ion is located at 164 Switzer Avenue in Springfield, MA 01109.

Walsh Electric Supply Acquisition

On Feb. 16, GMES announced the acquisition of Walsh Electric Supply — a fellow Colchester, VT-based distributor founded in 1959. The firm specializes in electrical, wiring and construction supplies and LED lighting in the industrial, commercial and residential markets.

“It’s exciting to have two local Vermont companies join together under one roof,” GMES VP of Sales Jeremy Henderson said in a news release. “Walsh, also a member of Affiliated Distributors, comes with a long-standing history in the marketplace. We are please to be able to continue and expand the tradition of excellent service, support and inventory to our customers.”

“We are thrilled to have Lee Spaulding and his experienced team join the GMES family, and can’t wait to see what our teams can do together throughout Chittenden, Franklin and Lamoille counties,” GMES Owner Nate Laber added. “I’d also like to wish Bob King the very best in his retirement.”

Walsh Electric Supply is located at 30 Champlain Dr in Colchester, VT 05446.

Other New Locations

On April 29, GMES shared on social media that it has expanded in Vermont with two new locations in Morrisville and Rutland. They are located at:

  • 55 Altrui Place, Rutland, VT 05701
  • 106 Goodell Avenue, Morrisville, VT 05661

In early April, GMES shared that it had relocated its Shrewsbury, MA location to 904 Boston Turnpike, Unit C 01545, where a full-service GMES counter is now open. GMES acquired Shrewsbury-based Atlantic Electrical Distributor Services in October 2023.
