Gypsum-based building products maker and distributor CGC Inc. plans to acquire Imperial Building Products (IBP) in a move set to strengthen the former’s national supply chain in Canada.
Announcing a definitive agreement on June 24, CGC said the deal represents its long-term strategy to invest in Canadian manufacturing, strengthen its domestic supply chain and support growing demand for housing and infrastructure.
IBP was formed in 1990 as a division of Imperial Manufacturing Group and serves as a manufacturer of steel studs for markets of commercial, residential, institutional and industrial building construction. It’s based in Richibucto, New Brunswick and operates four other production facilities in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia.
Meanwhile, CGC is a manufacturer, marketer and distributor of gypsum wallboard products, interior finishing materials and suspended acoustical ceilings. It has mining, manufacturing and logistical operations across Canada, including Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario and is building its newest plant in Alberta.
CGC is a subsidiary of USG Corporation.
