Insulation products distributor Insulation Distributors Inc. (IDI) announced June 30 that it has acquired Design North Supply — a regional distributor of spray foam, polyurea, coatings and spray foam equipment.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Chanhassen, MN-based IDI said the acquisition expands its national reach into Montana, Alaska and the broader Northwest. Design North Supply serves insulation applicators across Montana, North and South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, Washington and Alaska.

Founded in 2020, Design North Supply is headquartered in Billings, MT and has a location in Anchorage, AK. The company has built a regional reputation as a distributor of UPC spray foam, polyurea, coatings and spray foam equipment.

“Design North has had accelerated growth since their inception, which makes them a natural fit for our expansion plans in the Northwest,” IDI President Chris Novogratz said in the announcement. “This acquisition strengthens our coverage throughout the Northwest and brings additional benefits to every contractor we serve.”

IDI said existing Design North customers will continue to access the same products and team they currently rely on, now backed by IDI’s national distribution infrastructure, expanded product portfolio and more than 45 years of insulation industry experience. The company added that Design North customers will gain access to IDI’s full range of insulation products, including fiberglass, mineral wool, cellulose and accessories.

Founded in 1979, IDI is a family-owned national distributor of insulation materials, equipment and accessories that serves insulation contractors across the U.S. The company said it operates 70 locations nationwide.
