Savannah, GA-based Colonial Group has agreed to acquire Foster Fuels — a Virginia-based wholesale fuel distributor and provider of mission-critical energy services.

The companies announced the pending deal Aug. 28. Financial terms weren’t disclosed, and the transaction is expected to close Oct. 1, subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions.

The acquisition is set to expand Colonial’s geographic reach and capabilities across commercial, industrial, residential, agricultural and transportation markets. Foster Fuels supplies propane, gasoline, diesel, heating oil, lubricants and other energy products while providing routine delivery, fuel quality services and bulk water delivery.

Foster’s Mission Critical division provides emergency fuel and water delivery for industries and organizations that require backup energy during natural disasters and other disruptions. Its customers span data centers, healthcare, government and military operations, financial institutions, utilities, construction and other markets. Foster provides residential and commercial fuel services in Virginia while its emergency fueling operations serve customers nationwide.

Founded in 1921 and headquartered in Brookneal, VA, Foster is a fourth-generation family-owned company. Beyond its Virginia operations, its listed locations include facilities or service operations in Florida, North Carolina, Arizona and Texas, along with Canadian operations serving Quebec and Ontario.

Foster will continue operating under its existing brand and leadership following the acquisition, and all of its employees are expected to remain with the organization. The companies said Colonial plans to provide additional resources and investment while maintaining Foster’s existing customer relationships and operating model. Foster’s charitable Foster Foundation will remain independent.

Colonial is also a fourth-generation family-owned company founded in 1921. The company operates businesses across the energy, chemical, logistics and transportation sectors and is headquartered in Savannah.
