A former Milwaukee Tool employee faces charges after he allegedly stole more than $1 million in tools from the company.
According to local reports, 31-year-old Matthew Yang of Wauwatosa, WI, allegedly created 115 orders from March 2024 to March 2025, which he then had shipped to his home before deleting the orders, with no payments ever made. Of those orders, 109 of them — valued at nearly $1.1 million — were delivered to his apartment. In all, he ordered $1.44 million worth of product.
The theft went undetected for more than a year until a shipper questioned the company regarding a 9,000-pound shipment to a Wauwatosa apartment and the company could not find the order in the system.
Local reports cited investigations that found that Yang may have been working with Milwaukee Tools customers to quickly sell the tools in large quantities.
Yang, who faces 14 charges, including 11 felonies, was fired in April after eight years with Milwaukee Tool, starting in the manufacturer’s supply line unit before moving into its IT department in 2023. A warrant for his arrest was filed on Aug. 27, according to court records. If convicted on all counts, Yang faces up to 98 years and three months in prison and fines totaling $260,000. He would also be required to forfeit the money he gained.
Milwaukee Tool, headquartered in Brookfield, WI, celebrated its 100-year anniversary in 2024.
