Pharmaceuticals and laboratory products distributor Cardinal Health unveiled its newly operational Consumer Health Logistics Center, a 350,000-square-foot facility in Groveport, OH.
Built as a centralized replenishment hub, this facility boosts the company’s supply chain and ability to efficienty distribute over-the-counter medications, treatments and diagnostic solutions to a network of more than 20 forward distribution centers serving customers nationwide.
The news comes less than two weeks after the company announced the opening of a distribution center in Fort Worth and plans for another in Sacramento.
“This first-of-its kind hub marks another key milestone in our multi-year strategy to expand capacity and drive efficiencies across our pharmaceutical distribution network,” Debbie Weitzman, Cardinal Health CEO of Pharmaceutical & Specialty Solutions, said in a Sept. 15 news release. “As demand for consumer health products continues to grow, the Consumer Health Logistics Center is providing our customers with comprehensive products and solutions to meet the evolving needs of patients.”
The Consumer Health Logistics Center uses automation and a hub-and-spoke logistics model to optimize consumer health product inventory across the pharmaceutical distribution network. The facility features robotics, automated labeling and high-speed conveyors. Safety technology, including underground wire-guided forklifts, is also incorporated throughout.
Fully operational since July, the Consumer Health Logistics Center created over 150 jobs, Cardinal Health said.
