MDM has released its 2026 Top Distributors feature — the annual benchmarking resource that ranks North America’s largest wholesale distribution companies across 20 product categories.
Now in its 17th year, MDM’s Top Distributors project features more than 220 companies across industrial supplies, electrical/data/security, MRO, building materials/construction, HVACR, plumbing, safety, fasteners, fluid power, JanSan/packaging/disposables and other key distribution sectors. The feature is available now at https://www.mdm.com/top_distributors/.
This year’s Top Distributors feature is sponsored by Hawksearch, Epicor and Klipboard.
The 2026 rankings are based on distributors’ 2025 fiscal revenue within each product vertical, using company-supplied data, quarterly fiscal reports, SEC filings, publicly available information and MDM editorial research. For privately held companies that do not publicly disclose revenue, MDM estimates relative list position using the best available industry resources and input from sector validators.
MDM’s methodology places a heightened emphasis on industry-specific revenue rather than total company revenue, a distinction that helps account for the broad product portfolios of many large distributors. As a result, companies may appear across multiple lists when their sales within those product categories warrant inclusion. So, companies like Grainger, Ferguson and Wesco International appear on multiple lists given those distributors’ scale within other product categories besides their core offering.
“This is MDM’s largest and most challenging research project every year, and that’s because distribution itself is so fragmented, diverse and nuanced,” MDM Executive Mike Hockett said. “After spending countless hours pouring over spreadsheets, fiscal revenue reports and investor presentations, a sea of emails to company executives and extensive webpage testing, we’re happy to once again get this feature out the door. Our goal is to give industry leaders the most credible benchmarking view possible of who is moving the market within each major product category — not just who is biggest overall. That sector-specific lens makes the rankings more difficult to build, but it also makes them far more useful.”
The 2026 feature reflects a year in which tariff-driven inflation, uneven demand conditions and pricing discipline shaped revenue results across distribution. U.S. wholesale distribution revenue reached $8.44 trillion in 2025, up 4.8% from 2024, with sector performance varying widely across the industry.

Additionally, MDM is set to analyze this year’s feature in a free webinar on June 25, featuring Hockett and several industry experts to help break down the key factors that shaped this year’s rankings.
