Amazon Business Surpasses $60B in Annualized Gross Sales. Here’s What to Know

The B2B marketplace added $25 billion to its annual GMV since its previous update three years ago, while expanding its customer base and building out AI, procurement and delivery capabilities. Here's the key details, context and competitive analysis.

Amazon Business has surpassed $60 billion in annualized gross sales, nearly doubling the B2B marketplace’s reported volume in a little over three years.

The company said July 21 that it reached the milestone during the second quarter while serving more than 11 million organizations worldwide. More than 1.8 million organizations joined the platform during the first half of 2026, according to Amazon Business. Its customers span 11 countries and include hundreds of thousands of small businesses and 97 of the Fortune 100.

The new figure represents a $25 billion increase from the roughly $35 billion in annualized gross sales that Amazon Business reported at the end of 2022. Before that, the marketplace said it generated $25 billion in worldwide annualized sales during 2020, more than half of which came from third-party sellers.

Gross sales, or gross merchandise value, measures the total value of purchases transacted through the marketplace and should not be interpreted as Amazon Business revenue.

Amazon Business said its global product selection has expanded by nearly 30% this year, led by categories that include repair tools, office furniture and fresh groceries. Customers now have access to hundreds of millions of products supplied through a network of millions of sellers.

The company also highlighted several investments intended to make the platform more useful for business procurement. Those include AI-powered tools that identify potential savings, expanded business-specific pricing and quantity discounts and dedicated delivery fleets designed around commercial receiving needs.

Premium: What Amazon Business’ New Gen-AI Tools Mean for Distributors (November 2025)

Amazon Business said it completed more than 500 million deliveries worldwide during 2025. It has begun deploying branded commercial delivery trucks in 13 U.S. states that offer scheduled delivery windows, palletized bulk and parcel delivery and consolidated drop-offs.

Its newer AI tools include Amazon Business Assistant, which answers account questions and makes buying suggestions based on purchasing history; Savings Insights, which analyzes spending for savings opportunities; and Spend Anomaly Monitoring, which flags unusual purchases.

Amazon Business said its company-specific discounts saved customers more than $1 billion worldwide during 2025, while Business Prime members saved more than $880 million in shipping fees. The company has also expanded Business Prime beyond procurement by adding benefits from providers including CrowdStrike, Gusto and QuickBooks.

“Organizations of all sizes trust Amazon Business for vast selection, everyday value and fast, reliable delivery — and that trust is reflected in our continued growth,” Amazon Business Worldwide Vice President Shelley Salomon said.

MDM Podcast: Amazon Business is Just Getting Started (November 2023)

From AmazonSupply to a B2B Giant

Amazon’s B2B operation began with the quiet 2012 launch of AmazonSupply, which offered industrial, scientific and commercial products. Amazon replaced it with Amazon Business in 2015, introducing a broader marketplace with business pricing, approval workflows, payment tools and multi-user accounts.

The platform said in August 2025 that it served more than 8 million organizations globally, meaning its announced customer count has increased by at least 3 million since then.

Amazon Business has also pushed beyond basic product transactions. In 2024, it launched a vendor-managed inventory service that enables Amazon personnel to replenish supplies at customer locations — territory traditionally occupied by industrial, JanSan, safety and other specialized distributors.

MDM Analysis

A $60 billion annualized gross-sales figure is gaudy by any measure, and the jump from $35 billion illustrates why distributors cannot dismiss Amazon Business as merely an office-products website.

At the same time, the aggregate figure reveals little about where Amazon Business is gaining the most traction. Amazon has never broken out — or even meaningfully hinted at — its marketplace volume by product category. That makes it impossible to determine how much comes from office products versus industrial supplies, safety and PPE, JanSan, foodservice disposables, repair tools or other verticals where it has established a considerable presence. This — combined with the platform’s unique business model — is why MDM doesn’t include Amazon Business on our annual Top Distributors Lists despite it having revenues that would certainly qualify.

Amazon’s advantages in selection, digital convenience, pricing transparency and fulfillment are substantial. Its growing procurement technology, dedicated commercial delivery network and vendor-managed inventory offering also show that it understands product availability alone will not satisfy larger B2B customers.

But distributors’ most defensible advantage remains the work surrounding the product: application expertise, product specification, onsite assessments, fabrication, repair, installation, training, safety compliance, inventory optimization and deeply integrated customer relationships.

Replicating those capabilities across specialized industrial markets would require Amazon to commit substantial people, facilities and technical resources. The other path would be acquiring established distributors and the expertise they have spent decades building.

Until Amazon takes either step at meaningful scale, distributors that combine strong digital execution with differentiated, value-added services still have a competitive position that no marketplace — regardless of its GMV — can easily duplicate.
