Distributor dealmaking was relatively quieter in April 2026 compared to the previous three months, but it included several major deals that will further consolidate their markets.

We published news about 30 transactions during May — either pending or completed — involving at least one North American-based distributor of industrial, commercial and building supply product categories that have long comprised the core market demographics of MDM readership. That’s ahead of the 24 from April and represented a broadly healthy month of dealmaking and puts 2026’s monthly average at 29.8 — well ahead of 2025’s tariffs anxiety-driven 24.7.

While the month didn’t contain any blockbuster/billion-dollar deals, two companies stood out for prominent moves. This was led by Ferguson, which — per its usual style — announced its latest batch of acquisition moves in the form of six newly-added companies, including several manufacturer’s representative agencies — that represented approximately $350 million in combined added revenue. Meanwhile, electrical supplies distributor Rexel announced plans to acquire Illinois-based Revere Electrical Supply in a move that is set to add 10 U.S. Midwest branches to its footprint. Motion & Control Enterprises also nabbed a pair of deals during May, announced eight days apart. GME Supply likewise added a pair of companies, while SRS Distribution announced a standalone deal as well as one for newly-added subsidiary GMS.

For those multi-acquirers, it means four companies represented 12 of May’s 30 recorded deals.

Year-to-Date Deal Count by Product Category

Year-to-date through May, building materials/construction leads our deal count by category, but whereas that vertical blew away the competition wire-to-wire in 2025, we see HVACR on its heels and Electrical in a not-too-distant third.
